On offer here is a beautiful and good sized country english carved oak chest sometimes referred to as a coffer and or blanket boxe. Dating in construction we to the 18th century.
Made of solid oak the coffer stands on squared stub stile legs with reeded columns and apron borders in between and around. Surmounted above is a wide panelled body having plain panels with the borders being heavily carved atop. The flared edge top having the hinges in place that opens to reveal deep open storage. In the centre is a very old looking key escutcheon being worn and very rustic looking. The coffer has been ebonised at some point and in places the paint has worn away giving it a very nice shabby chic kind of style.
Of solid condition the coffer is offered in a good condition commensurate for age. The item is old so do not expect it be 'as new'. Free from any active worm having dead inert treated worm hole though minor, solid in joint, polished and ready to use having classic wear and marks in places though old, polished in and to be expected when buying a coffer of this age. The hinges are a later addition as the originals presumably rusted.
